This Audre Lorde quote is drawn from her essay titled The Transformation of Silence into Language and Action (1997). The essay is a fierce pronouncement of her experiences as a Black lesbian woman in a racist, homophobic society, and an explanation of her reasons for being vocal about these experiences.

Founded in 2012, Iranti is a Johannesburg-based media advocacy organisation that advances and defends the rights of LGBTI+ individuals, with a specific focus on lesbian, transgender (including gender non-conforming), and intersex persons in Africa. Iranti works within a human-rights framework to address issues and raise awareness relating to gender identities and sexuality through the strategic use of multimedia storytelling, research and activism.
