Listening to a Listening at Pungwe Nights: A Conversation Between Memory Biwa and Robert Machiri

Listening to a listening at Pungwe Nights is a collaborative experiential sound performance by Memory Biwa and Robert Machiri that seeks to explore the relationship between the sound of language and the language of sound. By listening to two archives from different spaces and times – mbira music archives on vinyls and recorded in Zimbabwe in 2015 and 1950s linguistic voice recordings from Namibia – we investigate the transnational relationship between languages, instruments and sound technology.
