An exhibition by Artist-in-Residence Christian Nerf.

Christian Nerf spends his time back in Cape Town unpacking an archive that spans more than twenty years. This review of his experimental practise is part of his PhD research. He calls on collaborators and activates works including 'Polite Force', 'Unauthorised', 'Escape to Robben Island' and 'Teaching Teachers'.

"What threads, what bookends, what rules have been at work: what accommodates the freedom to play? It's easy to forget that to 'play by one's own rules', one has to first go to the effort to grasp those rules that are already in play" (Christian Nerf. 2019).

Nerf is a PhD candidate at Liverpool John Moores University.
